Community Arts: Design
Anything that is to be made, printed or constructed has to be designed. In this course we will start with some simple objects, such as designing a label for your portfolio or designing as set of shelves for use at home. The designer doesn't usually make the finished item itself although he or she works closely with those people who do the actual making.
The job of the designer is to develop ideas. A good idea takes time to work out so it is usual for the designer to make many sketch drawings of something before the final design is arrived at.
As well as drawing you will also be doing some research. This will include finding out what exactly is required of the design as well as looking for examples of existing designs that might help you . Your research will include written notes, sketch drawings, photographs, cuttings from magazines and so on.
