Business Studies: Computer Applications
This module has been designed to provide learners with an understanding
of and practical experience in the use of the common generic applications
(i.e. Database, Spreadsheets and Computer Graphics).
A
spreadsheet
is a programme which allows you to enter and manipulate data including
numbers, text, dates and formulas. It is arranged in a set of columns
and rows. Spreadsheets have a very wide range of uses from keeping simple
records or sets of numbers, like the fuel use of your car, bills etc.
to complex financial calculations.
Databases
are one of the most important applications for computers. A database is
a collection of records about a particular area. An everyday example is
an address book. In this database you store the names of people , their
addresses, telephone numbers, birthdays and any other information you
find useful. The power of the computer database allows you to search by
any of the aspects you have recorded
In the graphics part of this module, you will
learn to operate some of the basic tools to create drawings with your
mouse. You will be able to reshape and move objects you have drawn, input
and manipulate clipart, enhance graphics with colour.
